Washington's Farewell Address
This is a brief look at the religious content Washington's Farewell
address.

above.
" Profoundly penetrated with this idea, I shall carry it with me to my
grave, as a strong incitement to unceasing vows that heaven may
continue
to you the choicest tokens of its beneficence"
He fully expected Heaven to bless America.
" With slight shades of difference, you have the same religion,
manners, habits, and political principles. "
The citizens of America had roughly the same religion, and morals, This
is the opposite of what many people are saying today, They believe that
America was founded as a non religious society. With many different
beliefs.
"Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity,
religion and
morality are indispensable supports"
Our government can not thrive without religion or morality
"In vain would that
man claim the tribute of patriotism, who should labor to subvert these
great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of
men and citizens."
According to Washington it is useless for a man to claim that he
is patriotic if he tries to ruin religion or morality.
"The mere
politician, equally with the pious man, ought to respect and to cherish
them "
Both politicians and religious men ought to respect religion and morals.
"A volume could not
trace all their connections with private and public felicity. Let it
simply be asked: Where is the security for property, for reputation,
for life, if
the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths which are the
instruments
of investigation in courts of justice ?"
Washington believed that if we desert religious obligation we have no
security in our property, reputation or life.
"Observe good faith
and justice towards all nations; cultivate peace and harmony with all.
Religion and morality enjoin this conduct;"
Observe honesty and justice towards all nations, Nurture peace
and unity with all.
Religion and morality command us to behave this way
"Though, in
reviewing the incidents of my administration, I am unconscious of
intentional error, I am nevertheless too sensible of my defects not to
think it probable that I may have committed many errors. Whatever they
may be, I fervently beseech the Almighty to avert or mitigate the evils
to which they may tend."
He ask the Almighty to prevent or less any evils that come from any of
his mistakes.
George Washington was clearly a religious man. In my future research
I plan on proving what religion he was.
