Which is more important Apologetics or a Testimony?

I just recently heard a pod cast that took place pastor's convention. The producer was going from person to person with a microphone and asking questions that most preachers should be able to answer.  One of the questions that he  asked was "What is most important apologetics (intellectual defense of Christianity) or your testimony?"

Most of the people that I heard reply said it was your testimony. That seems to be a popular answer but there is a problem with testimonies in general, and that is EVERYONE even Buddhist, Satanist, witches, have a testimony! So often you end up with I feel one way you feel another and it is difficult if not impossible to explain how your testimony is any better then the other person's testimony . So little gets accomplished.

Often , apologetics works because the person can test the claims you are making. When they see that Christianity is more than beliefs, and more than feeling,  but something that actually matches reality it can open up the mind. enough to allow a pathway to the heart.

On the other hand apologetics often overlooks the fact  that people have emotions. If you try to explain to a mother who just lost her young child the problem  of evil on intellectual grounds her grief might not let her understand, in fact it might just make her more angry at the world and even more angry at God then she already is. But if you can tell the grieving mom how God helped you or someone really close to you get through a similar situation the common bond you share can help that person to get past the situation to a point where they can listen to the facts behind Christianity. So testimonies can be helpful when given at the right time.

If that person hasn't eaten in several days neither of those answers will help them. The only thing you can do when the person is extremely hungry is feed him or her. After they have a full stomach things like apologetics and testimonies can work. So in this case a bowl of soup can be more important.

Allot of issues can choke a human being to the point where it is difficult to think about anything else. So we must always be aware that different people have different needs and if we can discover those needs and  witness to them with those needs in mind we will be much more effective.
