The Trinity
Doctrine
Many people believe that the trinity is three different Gods but that
is
not what Trinitarians believe.
We believe in one God three persons.
It is 1x1x1=1
NOT 1+1+1=3
The Father is not the Son
The Son is not the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is not the Father.
But all three are the only God.
I know it is hard to understand, and some groups believe that if it is
confusing it must not be of God,
but I believe a creator must be more complex than it's creation, and
God created the universe. If I can not understand everything there is
to know about the universe I should not be suprised if some Godly
things leave me stumped. At the same time though God is my
father, and my love for him demands that I try to understand.
A lot of people try to give illustrations as this point to explain the
trinity as this point but all of them fall short at some point
and most end up explaining something other than the trinity,
closest illustration seems to be the one I have already given 1x1x1=1.
It is
true that the word trinity isn't found in the Bible but neither
is
the word monotheism with is defined as a belief in only one God. But
yet the idea that only one real God exist is clearly in the Bible.
Isaiah 43:10
Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen:
that ye may know and believe me, and
understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither
shall there be after me.
Isaiah 44:8
Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time,
and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses.
Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.
While the trinity is more complicated than monotheism it is in the
Bible as well. In fact belief in one God is the first part of the
doctrine of the trinity.
The next part of the trinity is the Father is God
2 Thessalonians 1:2
Grace
unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus is God
Isaiah 9:6-7 For to us
a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on
his shoulders.
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
The Holy Spirit is God
Acts
5 :3-4
3Then
Peter said, "Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart
that you have lied to the Holy Spirit
and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the
land? 4Didn't it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was
sold, wasn't the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing
such a thing? You have not lied to men but to God."
When Ananias lied to the Holy Spirit he was lying to God.
But yet they are all different people
Matthew 3: 16 -17
As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that
moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like
a dove and lighting on him. 17And a voice from heaven said, "This is my
Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."
Jesus was in the water, the Holy Spirit was desending, and the Father
stayed in Heaven so three different people are being represented here.
Phil 2:5-11
Jesus thought it fair to be considered equal with God.
but he took on a form of a servant, and God gave him a name above every
name
and then it restates what is found in Isaiah 45:23 a verse that is
clearly about the one God.
Hebrews 1:4-8
This passage states that Jesus is better than the angels
and commands ALL of God's Angels worship him. It also has the Father
calling the Son God.
Acts 20:28
God purchased the church with his own Blood. The Father never bled for
the Church so this must be calling Jesus God.
Isaiah 9:6-7
Jesus is called mighty God.
