The environment is a
very divisive issue nowadays , and everyone seems
hyped up about it. I personally feel both sides are pushing the issue
to the extreme. I have bumped into many non Christians who get
mad when I mention that Mars
is experiencing Global Warming. If Mar is experiencing global warming
it can't be because of humans. Humans have not sent enough
machines to Mars to be the cause of it. Therefore at least some of the
Global Warming has to be caused by the Sun. But many
environmentalist are so wrapped up in the idea that we are responsible
for every bad thing that happens they don't want to hear that it might
not be our fault.
I
don't want to give the impression that I think that we have been
perfect stewards of our environment so I will give another example.
Over the past in our travels we have brought many animals to places
they should not be. When animals have no predators they often have an
explosive population growth, for example wild pigs. In an
environment that they like a wild pig populations can double in four
months. In the wild they grow huge tusk that are capable of allot
of damage, and will eat just about anything plant or animal, carrion or
prey. They
destroy native populations, of small and young animals, fencing
that house farm animals, and plant populations by digging up the
roots.. But yet some "environmentalist" would rather the pig destroy a
habitat that it was not meant to be in them see a hunter with a hungry
family kill the pig.
I know of
one enviromentalist that worked for an animal rescue shelter that made
the claim that South Carolina winters are to tough
for Alaskan Husky's and therefore should not be allowed to go out
at night to use the bathroom. So the poor dogs had to lay in
filth all night long rather than go to the bathroom in an outdoor area
of the kennel where they could have kept themselves clean. Those dogs
would have done fine outside long enough to go to the bathroom. No
matter how well intended you are stupidity hurts, if she had taken the
time to learn about the native temps of Alaska the dogs would have
experienced less illness.
Caring for the environment is good, but we must
use our brains to know exactly what our environment needs. Caring for
pigs in Hawaii, instead of letting starving people eat them does great
harm to that environment and the people around that environment. On the
other hand if you don't care for the bugs that eat other bugs all the
plant life in the area can be devastated. We need to know which is
which and act accordingly instead of trying to save all animals
everywhere.
On the
other hand I have heard conservatives getting mad at the thought of
doing anything for the environment. There is absolutely nothing wrong
with having a garden that attracts beneficial insects that eat the bad
ones instead of coating all of your plants with pesticides. When we
need a tree cut down it is a great idea to plant a new one of that same
type (instead of the cheapest pine available).
God made this planet for us, but he also told
Adam and Eve to take care of the garden that they were in.
I believe that command carries over to every
single human on this earth . We as Christians are supposed to be good
stewards of our money and the other gifts God has given us. God gave us
more than money and talents, he gave us a planet to live on, caring for
it should be just as big of a priority a taking care of our
money. As a good steward of our money we don't just throw our
money at the first investment we hear about we take our time to learn
about that investment, and check out others as well then we put our
money in the wisest choice. We should do this with the world we
live in as well.
