Son of God
There are many scriptures that refer to the Son of God What does the term "Son of God" mean? Does it mean Jesus ? Well not exactly the first time in the Bible the term Son of God is used in the Book of Daniel this becomes clear. (Dan 3:25 KJV) He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God. Could Nebuchadnezzar have known what Jesus looks like? No, Jesus had not yet appeared on earth. (Dan 3:12 KJV) There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. If the term does not necessarily mean Jesus then what exactly does it mean? The MOODY HANDBOOK OF THEOLOGY by PAUL P. ENNS MOODY PRESS Chicago, Illinois says (3) Son of God. Jesus claimed to be the Son of God on a number of occasions (cf. John 5:25). This name for Christ is frequently misunderstood; some suggest it means the Son is inferior to the Father. The Jews, however, understood the claim Christ was making; but saying He was the Son of God the Jews said He was “making Himself equal with God” (John
5:19). In many cultures the term
"Son of" means just like, so the Son of God is just like God which means he is also equal to God. |
